Receiving a negative employee review can be frustrating, but it can also provide valuable insight into how current and former employees view your newsroom.

At RateMyStation, we believe honest workplace feedback benefits both employees and media organizations. If you’re a Station owner, General Manager, News Director, Human Resources representative, or other authorized Station representative, there are several steps you can take if you disagree with a review or believe it violates our Community Guidelines.

Report Reviews That Violate Our Community Guidelines

If you believe a review contains false information, harassment, personal attacks, spam, or otherwise violates our Community Guidelines, you can report it for review.

Simply click the “Report” flag icon beneath the review.

As a Station, what can I do about negative ratings?

Our moderation team carefully reviews every report. If the review violates our Community Guidelines, Privacy Policy, or our Terms and Conditions, appropriate action will be taken. If it does not violate our policies, it will remain published on the platform.

Respond Publicly to Employee Reviews

One of the most effective ways to address employee feedback is by responding professionally.

Verified Station accounts can post public responses to reviews, allowing your organization to:

          1. Clarify factual information
          2. Address employee concerns
          3. Demonstrate professionalism
          4. Show prospective employees that your Station values feedback
          5. Highlight improvements your newsroom has made

A thoughtful response often creates a stronger impression than attempting to remove criticism.

Encourage More Employees to Share Their Experiences

One review rarely tells the complete story of a newsroom.

We encourage Stations to invite current and former employees to share honest workplace experiences on RateMyStation. The more authentic reviews your Station receives, the more balanced and representative your overall profile becomes.

While Stations should never submit reviews about themselves, encouraging eligible employees to participate helps provide job seekers with a broader picture of your workplace.

We Don’t Remove Reviews Simply Because They’re Negative

RateMyStation exists to promote transparency within the media industry. Negative reviews are not removed simply because a Station disagrees with them.

However, reviews that violate our Community Guidelines, Privacy Policy, or Terms and Conditions may be removed after being reviewed by our moderation team.

Turn Employee Feedback Into an Opportunity

Employee feedback can help identify patterns involving:

          1. Leadership
          2. Communication
          3. Workplace culture
          4. Employee satisfaction
          5. Career development
          6. Newsroom morale

Many Stations use employee feedback to strengthen retention, improve management practices, and create a healthier work environment for current and future journalists.
