Station market rank#1

Susan Dinkel
Dedicated, HARD working, understands the job at hand as she has also done your job at some point in time. Susan has a unique role of being the stations ND and anchor. She helps push you to strengthen your weak spots. However, Susan gets very stressed with her many hats in the newsroom and things quickly become toxic.
WTHI is Terre Haute's #1 station located in downtown. It's the perfect location to get to and from stories!
If you are looking for a place to grow and learn, this is your station to call home. It won't come easy though. You will have to work extremely hard to prove yourself worthy at a station where those who have been there for years are growing tired of training the newcomers.
Don't get me wrong, you will have training. In fact, you will have a Magid Consultant here at this station!
This station uses ENPS and Avid.
Camera gear and vehicles are assigned to help ensure responsibility and working conditions.
Like any station, you are to come up with a handful of lead-able stories before the morning and afternoon meetings.
This station ROCKS breaking news and the teamwork really shows why it is #1.
Expect to do newsroom, studio and in-field lives, mostly by yourself.
The station does have an editor, but you will occasionally be asked to help make sure the right video goes to the server.
Now, the bad stuff.
Overall newsroom environment rating: 4/10. You have a lot of people who want to grow and succeed, but those same people are going to quickly become burnt out and eventually you will hear the yelling. Whether it's from the ND, the anchors, or the producers, you will hear the toxic, non-constructive criticism. In fact, you may find your name on the lips of others as the place is a crawling rumor mill.
Make sure to over communicate or it's as if you never spoke.
If you have a position you want to try within the station, communicate and the ND will do what she can to see you fit for that position.

An Overall Toxic Work Environment
The GM is a cheap asshole who treats his employees like shit. There is 0 communication in this station. Management is childish, petty, immature, and illogical.

Susan is good. She is personable. She started out working as a reporter, so she understands that aspects, but she has a terrible time differing between anchor, producer and news director. Which, whether she knows it or not, cuts into her anchoring and news directing
Sexual Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, An Overall Toxic Work Environment
There have been too many experiences in each category selected for the 3+ years I have worked here. Off the top of my head, personal and vacation day requests have been rejected (which is illegal). Employees will be yelled at and publicly humiliated for using the word “guys” on air and this is just by middle management. I have been talked down to and berated by upper management for doing or not doing something my male counter parts have or have not done. Starting off, honestly it was a great place that I would have recommended to anyone. Now, I don’t think I would recommend this station to anyone.
There are certain prowl and certain groups of people who make it “positive and fun” but it has been going downhill the years I have been there. It is unorganized. No one communicates with the next person and it is a headache to even go to work for the day. It used to be a great place for young, inexperienced reporters to make their start. But, recently, I wouldn’t recommend anyone come here just because of the way they will be treated, abused and used.
