An Overall Toxic Work Environment
Was asked my first day to commit corporate espionage against competing station across town. Had personal items stolen from my desk. Was hazed. Openly disrespected by other employees. Heard stories of reporters being screamed at and sexual harassed.
Bryan Hughes is worst pos in the building.

Rod Jackson and Bob Schaper
Bad. Bob is lazy and delegates most of the work to Amanda Barren. Rod was incredible, and motivated you to be better. The station jumped the shark when he died in June 2021.
An Overall Toxic Work Environment
Bob is a nice guy, but they brought in the "great'--just ask her--Amanda Barren to be content manager without really being up front with everyone about it. Essentially, she's just taken over the whole station and systemically either ran people off, or eliminated people who don't worship her.
You will be harassed and worked to death here, and the station morale is low. Management lets Amanda run wild all over the newsroom, and she has been known to harass people whose personalities don't mesh with her. Essentially, if you don't treat her like the superstar she thinks she is, she will do everything she can to make your life miserable. 15 people have either quit or announced intentions to leave since she came on board in November 2021. People clearly don't like where this station is headed, but they won't say anything either because they're afraid to get in trouble, or become a pariah. Very disappointing.

Positive, but micromanaged
Do your research. Newsroom is a revolving door of management and personalities. News Director is a caring, smart guy, but he's the longest tenured ND and he's been there a year.

Upbeat, chaotic, disorganized, local news driven
WOWK is under new management and things are improving. This station has started to hire college grads but offers very little training due to staffing and management. Previous experience will greatly improve reporters’ chance for success. A very fast paced newsroom with “sink or swim” environment. Reporters are hungry for news and expected to pitch and turn multiple stories. Fun, upbeat environment but very disorganized.
