Jennifer Smith
I don't see how it could have been any better.
This station is a dream come true for young and old journalists alike. Under Bruce Carter and Brian Neal, who were named in previous reviews, the station was completely toxic. Employees were unhappy and morale was incredibly low. Under the current News Director, Jennifer Smith, everyone has a voice. She and all of the other managers, GM included, are all easily approachable and take the time to listen to any concerns... and address them right away. They give credit where credit is due, and also highly encourage everyone to give their fellow employees a "high five" on the newsroom chat platform, bringing attention to good work/attitude/contributions/ideas/etc. Employees, with with few exceptions, lift each other up and help each other out every single day, no matter the position, tenure or level of experience. It's a true team and employees really do enjoy coming to work every day! It's a unicorn, and I wish I had realized how good it really was before I moved to another market. I would have stayed put if I had known first-hand how other stations operate, and now hope to get back there someday. The grass isn't always greener... unless the other side is WLEX.
Scripps, on the other hand, isn't a great company to work for, but I'd still go back in a heartbeat if given the chance.

Brian Neal
An Overall Toxic Work Environment
This station is under new management and has undergone a lot of changes, not necessarily for the better. First time news director doesn’t know how to manage people, bad behavior gets rewarded while hardworking employees can’t catch any breaks. ND not an authority figure, no consequences given when issues arise. First time assistant news director is a nice person, butnalso can’t manage people and doesn’t like confrontation. Lots of complaining, people trashing management, talking behind other employees’ backs, green reporters, producers and photographers hired but nothing is done to help them learn, “sink or swim” environment. There is a mass exodus of people leaving. Some of the story selection has improved due to the station being bought by Scripps, and there are a lot of photographers here for a station of this size. Also there are a lot of shows and the potential to go live. Those are the main positives.
If you’re new to the business and looking to learn, don’t come here. If you’re somewhere in between looking to climb the ladder, come in, get your reel and leave.

Bruce Carter
Positive experience working for Bruce Carter. The assistant news director is the one you need to watch out for.
Aside from a couple of weasels in the news room, most people aren't bad.
Just do your work and keep a low profile.
and yes!! I gathered all of this as an intern!
