Working for him was fine, but he was micromanaged by the GM, Tim Coles.
An Overall Toxic Work Environment
On top of the fact that I was overworked, there was no structure, transparency nor accountability. The general manager, Tim, was a micromanager who berated employees, didn't give them credit, and did everything he could to insulate himself from the newsroom while putting the burden on every other employee with no regard to their mental or physical health. He was only focused on himself and made people hate coming to work. He removed titles from so many positions, including sports director, which made my job chaotic and frustrating. This led people to doing 2-3 other people's job. Overall, I would NOT recommend anyone work here, not even kids coming out of college. You will be overworked, there is no direction other than going south and there's no respect given.
The general manager has made public headlines for trying to sue a former anchor who tried to leave for a void non-compete clause that was on her old contract. He tried to protect his reputation by ruling with an even more brutal iron fist that instilled fear in so many in the news room. Our news director is simply a puppet with no power. No room for advancement. No reason to be happy. You're a number on a spreadsheet. No one cares about you there.
