Terrible GM
Racial Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, An Overall Toxic Work Environment
Fellow employees have been subject to sexual harassment and racial discrimination, both reported to HR (this is a Nexstar-Owned station btw)
If you’re offered a job here, RUN, don’t walk away. The GM wants to control every facet of the newsroom even though she has no knowledge of journalistic ethics and little personal or journalistic integrity. She’s driven two news directors from the station in two years, not to mention the countless numbers of on-air and off-air talent. We’ve voiced concerns about it to corporate HR many times, but it’s as though it falls on deaf ears. In the meantime, every time she senses she’s losing control of the newsroom, she tries to make petty power plays to appear as though she has everything under control. It’s really sad to watch. And while she sits in her corner office making countless demands of your time and energy, and mistreating certain employees, she’ll send out a "Monday morning motivation" reminding everyone of the importance of hustling. Her tone deafness is another reminder that she shouldn’t be managing the station. In an industry with already high turnover, this station has become a constantly revolving door. Enter it at your own risk to your mental and emotional health.

Tia Streeter
Tia is amazing. She's a great boss that cares a lot about her team.
KX News is in Bismarck, ND. For young reporters, this is a GREAT starter market. I had friends at my station and the competing one. While the winters in North Dakota are tough, the job is great. I was MMJ/weekend anchor when I left KX. I still keep in touch with the news director as she has become a mentor for me in my next job. Starting salary for MMJ's out of college is pretty awesome. Around $32K.
If you want to be at a place that invests in you and truly teaches you storytelling, don't pass up Bismarck. I couldn't say enough good things.
