My time at KWQC was nothing but miserable. In the time that I was there, we went through 4 news directors in my less than 2 years working there. If you are expecting growth in your career, I suggest you go anywhere besides KWQC TV6 news as they traumatize their employees with their lack of communication and leadership. I have never worked for an organization so unprofessional, disorganized, and led by a team of managers who refuse to do work. They sit in the conference room all day having “meetings” and nothing productive comes from the closed door “meetings” because they are not talking about anything productive, they just gossip about employees. I have never felt so disrespected and taken advantage of. My time at KWQC TV6 News Station in DAVENPORT, IA was an experience I hope I hopefully can forget. As a minority, I was met with racist comments from a senior anchor and my news director as well. I find it very unbelievable that a station as poorly run as KWQC is still operating after losing 13 employees in less than 1 year. Mind you, we also went through 2 general managers. The current general manager disrespects women and doesn’t respect minority culture. He also has no respect for the only black television show in this market that is at his station. Employees leave meetings crying because of the disrespect and their inability to train. I really want to emphasize that they do not communicate. So if you decide you would like to be part of that toxic environment, just know you will have an assignment manager that will change your reporter story as you are in the middle of an interview for the reporter story she originally sent you on. And it will be your fault. 0/10. Highly don’t recommend! Thanks!

Terrible, absolutely terrible. Never have I worked for a manager who couldn’t care less about her staff or invest in her staff.
An Overall Toxic Work Environment
Never had I worked for a manager that lacks common sense, and who has never been in the field. To come to work everyday, feel undervalued, unappreciated, and made out like trash, that’s what you get when you work at Ch. 6 KWQC. Their hypocritical slogan “TV6 cares for you” they may send their reporters out everywhere to cover the story but they don’t care about their employees. Instead, when they do decide to talk to you, it is petty, snooping, and will find every flaw about you. Your good days are when your manager doesn’t talk to you. Those were Anne Hughes’ words.
Overall terrible experience. I had talked with the station manager about workplace harassment, as did 7 other people, and nothing was done. Instead it was thrown back that it’s the newsroom vs. the managers. That was never the case. We wanted to be treated with respect not go to work and get verbally abused and suffer workplace harassment.

The station tries to build on a positive workplace culture, but instead, it fosters negativity and management pits members of the team against each other. The moral of the newsroom is very low.
The station lacks leadership in the news director, who rarely is involved in the day to day operations. She spends much of her time in the GM's office or out of the building. Everything she says is built on lies. She will tell people one thing and do the opposite, never following through. Main talent has been there a long time but the turn over is extremely high. Management will try and spin turn over to be that it was the result of a personal or family reason, when it is really the toxic and low moral.
