Kirk Varner
Run, don’t walk the other way. Station runs off of favoritism - the assistant news director and executive producer basically scammed their way to the top. The Asst ND has favorites - generally old-timers with children. They only make new staff members go live every day (all other reporters WFH) and there is racism if you check out who they make sure to hide on weekend shifts. Kirk will lie and tell you and promise you different shifts or promotions, Bob has no problem always siding with producers and blaming reporters for everything. Expect with the terrible producers, you will be switched from story to story throughout the day because of the indecision. You may have a PHOTOG, but this is the most toxic newsroom for reporters. All the good reporters leave after 2 years.
Racial Discrimination, An Overall Toxic Work Environment
See above.
Toxic environment, reporters are blamed for everything while management bends over backwards for producers. A lot of management are born and raised in the Midwest, beware if you come from any other regions, they’ll make sure you know you’re an outsider. Pick a different station, this is regrettable for every reporter who’s made it out. I truly wish I had something positive to say but I want to make sure reporters go to better places.
