Mark came across like he cared about concerns, but never took any steps to do anything about fixing them.
An Overall Toxic Work Environment
The whole time I worked here, the staff joked the station was a "dream killer". We would see people come in bright eyed and full of passion for journalism, within weeks they would be overwhelmed, exhausted, and looking to leave the field. There were many people I never thought would do anything other than work in news, but they all left the business after this contract. Management listens to concerns, but then nothing ever gets fixed. All of the equipment (computers, cameras, etc.) is hand-me-downs from a sister station in Lincoln and it's all broken. One of the cameras had a shattered lens which the station refused to replace. The reporter who had that camera had lines through everything she filmed for a year and a half, then when she left the camera went to someone else. The workload is absolutely insane and completely unreasonable. There is so much work expected from each person every single day that it makes it impossible to produce good work because there's literally not enough time to get everything done. I was asked to work overtime every single day and average about 10-hour shifts with no breaks. Even with all the overtime, I still could not afford to live based on the salary I was offered. I spent many days and nights crying from being overwhelmed, overworked and just exhausted. Leaving this station was the best thing that ever happened to me. I cannot recommend enough to stay away.
