Absolutely horrific. Terrible leader.
An Overall Toxic Work Environment
WBTW (nexstar) in myrtle beach has got to be the worst place to work on the planet. to put it to you this way: a new news director paul caron started 2 years ago. In the past two years, nearly ALL of the station's main anchors have quit. he is the worst manager in the history of the planet. and that is just main anchors. DOZENS of reporters have quit due to his blatant bullying, favoritism, and victim-blaming behaviors. I wish i could personally put in a DO. NOT. WORK. order for this station. not to mention the high school style bullying that comes from everywhere in the station from the news director, executive producers and anchors. the news director will talk shit about employees to other employees CONSTANTLY... and never address it with the actual employee themselves. He lives on drama and purposefully fuels it. Yes, I have been to HR about all of this. HR says --verbatim-- there are dozens of complaints about this news director from both current and former employees. Yet NOTHING is done. Everything is swept under the rug. The man BULLYS his employees, HR is aware, and NOTHING happens to him. Absolutely everyone -- currently at the station or formerly -- would agree with this. Please get this out there. It breaks my heart seeing new employees sign contracts and start working at this hell hole.

Awful
Racial Discrimination, An Overall Toxic Work Environment
Racist worst boss I have ever had. I will never work for nexstar again because of my experience with him. Employees all came to me saying he was bad mouthing me in leadership saying I wouldn’t make it the 90 days. They said I improved a lot and were shocked and uncomfortable when he bashed me. The second his new MMJ with blonde hair came in he fired me said I wasn’t a fit. He also gave her a photographer because she wasn’t trained but wanted her on air right away. He shot down stories I had that were good and didn’t build his employees up. He expected my friend who just quit this week to do the reporters job he replaced me with for free and her digital editor job because she wasn’t trained. He let me go and I had packages airing and stories. I spoke to previous black reporters who either quit, on their way out for his racism when the contract ends or was fired by him like me.
I just filed unemployment and saw the Accountant is Human Resources. So when I went to talk to Michelle Kiser about Paul discriminating me she did nothing. I sent her my feedback from assistant news director how I improved and yet got fired. Paul Caron is trying to make an all white station. Even the news producer/ assistant director just quit I saw on LinkedIn. It’s toxic and clickish nobody wants to stay anymore. Paul Caron had a meeting firing me when the man Robert in charge his boss didn’t speak to me once just signed the paper. Never came to introduce himself but the day I was fired he brought Robert over to meet the new blonde MMJ. That place should investigate Paul Caron for racism. He also doesn’t give lunch breaks to MMJ’s. South Carolina doesn’t have a law for it according to him. Then gets mad that everyone is putting their time card in without using a break. MMJ’s get off late depending on where the shoot.Deadlines need to be made so by the time everything is finished you eat when your shift ends.

Fairly new and wants the station to succeed BUT adds on work every week for reporters and doesn't notice they are drowning trying to keep up.
Racial Discrimination, An Overall Toxic Work Environment
The station is grossly under-staffed, there will be one day-side reporter and will try to give that reporter the amount of work of 2-3 reporters. There is only ONE manager that knows what he is doing and is the ONLY reason half of the reporters have stayed so long. The others are completely clueless and rarely provide help . They call it a teaching station but does not tell you what you need to work on. There is a senior producer that talks about people more than we get paid. They bring you down , talk down on you instead of lifting you up and trying to help you get better. They added on a new show and there is only two day side reporters every shift because people are resigning. The only photographer is leaving and hasn’t even completed a year. 2 reporters quit a year early because they are exhausted from the lack of communication , horrible technology! Not to mention the engineering department gets an attitude when you ask for …help ….. OH and it’s been boring here , they want breaking /hard news everyday and most days it is DRY! They will make you stretch content. Something that could’ve been a VOSOT will turn into two VOSOTS possibly three and a PKG. The shortages are affecting reporters the most.
