Get out while you can. A Narcissist at work. Monique brand claims to have 3 Emmys and claims to have served in the U.S. military, we have found no confirmation that is true. You can even look at the Emmy winners from Texas and see she was never a winner, she comes in late to work everyday, Never replies to you if you say good morning to her, She will always talk about herself instead of giving you constructive criticism, She does not know how to lead a newsroom so expect No leadership, Constantly brings the employees down, makes reporters work overtime and does not plan to have fill in reporters. a reporter come in last minute at 2am for a morning show because she isn’t planning anything. She will make you work nightside one day and then tell you to work morning show the next day. People are losing sleep. Don’t text or even email her if she’s not at work and sick unless you want to get yelled at. DCP got yelled at by her because she said she was sick and that the DCP shouldn’t be sending emails to her. She will also deny your OT if you truly work late on the Sundays when there’s a late game, she Cares more about designer brands and flashy clothes At first but dresses like a homeless person, She makes employees feed her cat for free when she leaves town, they all said they wasted gas driving to her apartment and accuses them of stealing items from her apartment, claims to have a membership at local country club even though it’s a $60,000 membership and you have to be recommended to get in (more lies from her), Always talks about “the big picture” but doesn’t have plans in place, one day she lied about punching a woman’s car window, she told everyone in the newsroom the woman wasn’t driving on the train track so she went out to punch the woman’s window, we all went to HR to complain, she makes faces while your pitching news stories when she thinks they’re stupid, she always takes credit for things that aren’t genuinely hers, she has done the same thing at KCEN/KAGS, too, she will buy pizza for the newsroom and say “I took it upon myself to buy this pizza” instead of saying “great job, you deserve pizza.” Don’t apply here unless you’re ready to have a breakdown and question your life

Don't even consider it. Run. The station is being run down by terrible management. Valerie is the GM and she chose to hire her friend Monique Brand. Despite claims against Brand to HR from so many people in the newsroom. Monique Brand makes you question what it takes to get to the top. The station can't seem to hire a News Director after Melissa left earlier in 2024. Didn't help that her Assistant News Director followed just days after. And then the Production Manager followed their lead. ALL WITHIN ONE MONTH. Makes you wonder what they knew was going to be going wrong with Tegna before the new CEO came along. Now back to Monique Brand, who can't go a day without talking about her Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and whatever money Tegna is paying her to do nothing. Oh, but she does hire! Students fresh out of college who are getting their first taste of journalism at NewsWest9. But all they're seeing is the complete opposite of what she sells them when she offers them the job. What do I mean by that? If you're hired by Monique Brand, she will treat you like you are incompetent. Throughout my time there, I saw so many new people cry, shake after being yelled at, and nearly explode after she stole peoples' food. Yes, stole employee's food. Doesn't help that the majority of the veterans at the station kiss her ass so they can stay on her good side and get away with doing whatever they want. Respect yourself. Push to work at a station where they will respectfully challenge you, where you will learn and grow. You won't find that at NewsWest9.

She Always late for work,Never participates in huddle time,Reporters pitch bad stories and she says it’s all good for pkg, Dont count on her to lead anything.If she hears yall talkin loud then she gets mad with: “since everyone’s wanting to talk let’s start the meeting now”. Sometimes will leave in the middle of a huddle…. If youre ready to hear about expensive designer clothes and fake military stories…….run!!!! Keeps using a story on her military badge as a big deal but after some googling……. The badge isnt special…..90% of military folk have it…….unless she has a Purple Heart then trust you dont want to hear about how she has a badge…..sum1 told me the badge its standard…..definitely has her favorites and u know who they are……she probably hangs out with them outside of work…….dont expect feedback……she won’t give it and will only talk about herself…….says she’s perfectionist and will yell at you over the smallest mistake in the broadcast……….dont come here unless u dont want 2 learn

No feedback no leadership,u won’t learn here since no1 leads the newsroom,keeps talking about her old news room and doesnt say the name of newswestnine right or fox west Texas, always leaves out last word……..”news west” or “fox west”

good experience but the management hiring phase is questionable. I lost count how many times I had to fill in for someone because management can’t fill positions on time. No one will get hired if their name is similar to someone else, if they have an accent, but candidates need to be hired on their quality. You will probably work overtime but it’s because they need the stories and someone to shoot them

Leave if you can. Management is never there for you. GM is never there. AND and EP are non existent. You will not get positive feedback when you put blood, sweat and tears into a product. If you spent days and weeks on it, you’ll get negative feedback guaranteed. The employees who make the transfers to leave are frowned upon even when they are told they are not good. The station has money. Management doesn’t want to pay you well. Only the well-liked get paid well.

Not an ideal starting market if you’re trying to get started. Expectations are high so you will receive “training” but you’re not getting trained.
