News Dirctors

Greg Retsinas
Greg is cool. I like him. John, the Assistant News Director, is a hack and a dweeb.
An Overall Toxic Work Environment
The assistant news director is a condescending jerk. He doesn't know what he's talking about.

Creatively refreshing
My time at KGW was a blast even though it was a hard adjustment working overnights for the AM shows for the first time. Brenda, Nina, Drew & Rod are a fun and lively team that made mornings fly by. They not only helped us shape the shows but when they had edits or critiques, it wasn’t condescending but rather they explained why they wanted it this way.
Directors and fellow producers worked great in cohesion.
Overall, loved the different creative approach greg and then EP Celeste took to creating content (not always the “if it bleeds, it leads” SOP in other newsrooms)
Only negative in the newsroom was when our EP got promoted to a different position, we went months without a true morning leader.
If you’re reading this glowing review and wondering why I left…it was the city itself that became to much to ignore. Living in Portland was pure hell. My car was broken into 4 times in a “secure garage”, the homeless population is so rampant, you can’t walk through the city on the sidewalk without being yelled at by some high person from their tent block your walkway. In fact I had to use my knife to chase off one person who tried to fight me and my dog.
I’d recommend living in Vancouver or Beaverton/Hillsboro if you are interested in the job. Less trash and syringes on the streets.

Tiffany Logan
She is also a producer/anchor. I found the workload on her plate too much to help new reporters improve on their work. It's also very difficult to bring up issues in the shows considering she's the ND and a producer and anchor.
An Overall Toxic Work Environment
I would say others have reported sexism and racist remarks in the newsroom, but they've gone unaddressed. Overall, everyone is overworked, underpaid, and never really rewarded for a job well done. Lack of accountability from those who have been at the station for a long time, and when Gray required covid vaccinations, the people the station let go were not treated well. My understanding is they weren't told their exemptions were denied and found out they were fired on the day.
You need to be self motivated to work here. You won't be successful unless you are driven. There's very little feedback, help, and encouragement. If you're a hardworker you'll be expected to pick up the slack for those who aren't cutting it. Because there's a buyout, people stick around even if they don't like the job.

Greg Restinas
At first he was very welcoming but became toxic and dismissive over time.
Racial Discrimination, An Overall Toxic Work Environment
As the one of the few POC in the newsroom I was treated as the token person for my designated culture. I was constantly micromanaged and given additional requirements and expectations that was not expected from my counterparts. I was constantly spoken down to and make feel less than because of my heritage.
There was a lack of communications, very disorganized, no room for advancement, no training opportunities and just overall toxic.

Jury’s out
An Overall Toxic Work Environment
We are waiting to see what Greg does with this team. He’s very sharp. Most of us are breathing a sigh of relief the AND was passed over. He’s all about himself and constantly throws people under the bus to advance himself.
It was once great. We are hoping Greg can make KGW great again.

Sexual Harassment, An Overall Toxic Work Environment
Not worth it, things are about to change. Rick is retiring.
The best move this station made was appointing John Tierney interim ND. He’s smart, sexy, and has got the goods to take this station forward! All hail Tierney! The bearded, obsequious one is movin’ on up!!!
